Today the commonwealth wants to eliminate duplicates of all license plates. That means if you have a Year of Manufacture or Antique plate, you might loose it. They say that it is for your safety, but lets face it, its for the money.
If you care, write to your representative and ask them to reject house bill 3433 and save our plates! #MassAutoClubs

As was reported in May, amendment #1180 (HB-4401 – exempting vehicles over 75 years old from inspection) was attached to the House version of the 2019 budget. The Senate version did not have it attached, so the bill will now go to a committee for negotiating the differences. That is where you can help.
Outlined below are the key contacts for the committee, and we need to show them that there is support for this amendment (#1180). We would like for you to communicate with your members, and ask them to write, email or call – one or more of the representatives. Personalized messages are always best, but any message is better than none.
Some important items to stress:
- This bill will have a POSITIVE revenue impact for the Commonwealth ($50 vs $60 – 2 years of standard registration)
- It will help to preserve automotive history
- Will encourage “restrictive” use of these vehicle (Year of Manufacture or collector plates required)
Note: The benefits to the hobby outweigh these items

MAAC providing “expertise”
MAAC has been working with Senator Anne Gobi’s and Senator Keiko Orrall’s offices on the paint color and definitions for the Year of Manufacture bill. Several year of manufacture plates were scanned for color, and those color codes are going to be used to define the colors to be used when restoring a plate. We feel that this will help the process of acceptance by the Registrar.
Thank you to all those MAAC members who provided plates to be scanned as samples.
Bill H.4155 an Act relative to historic routes 1, 6 & 20 – In third reading
H 4155, an Act relative to designating U.S. Routes 1, 6 & 20 as historic Routes in Massachusetts was read second and ordered to a third reading on May 9, 2018. Should the bill complete it’s third reading, it would proceed to a vote. MAAC feels that this bill, if brought to a vote, would have enough votes to pass.
What has MAAC done for the hobby lately?
The Board at MAAC works hard to track legislation but we also look for ways to help the hobby. So we are trying something new. MAAC has negotiated a discount at the Interstate Battery story in Waltham. if you follow the link below, you will find the flyer that has the discounted items, and instructions on how to get a discount on other items. You just need to mention MAAC’s name! Please let us know how you feel about the discount and please let us know if you have a suggestion for another business.
We need you!
We are still looking for a board member, if you are interested or know someone who might be – Please let us know!
